Snow Patrol Announce new compilation collection, Up To Now

Snow Patrol have announced details of a Best Of compilation album, due for release later this year.

The two CD, thirty track collection is titled Up To Now and will hit stores on November 9th of this year, preceded by a new single by the name of Just Say Yes, due one week earlier on November 2nd. The compilation album will be released in 3 different options to purchase; one regular 2CD collection, one digipack that’s three CD’s with an additional DVD full of odds and ends, or the big collectors box-set that features two discs, three vinyls, two DVD’s, a lithograph made by Bradley Quinn and an ‘LP-sized booklet’.

The release will also feature a few of The Reindeer Sections songs, frontman Gary Lightbody’s side-project, as well as three new Snow Patrol songs.

Gary Lightbody describes the record as “a portrait of us as a band, warts and all. We’ve climbed a hill and now we’re looking back and taking in the view for a bit. It’s nice to show people that we didn’t just arrive overnight.”

This Friday sees the return of one of the UK’s biggest bands, Snow Patrol, performing a special DJ set at The Underground in Chicago. They are in Chicago supporting U2 on the start of their US 360? tour and wanted to rock one night at Underground.

Langerado Music Festival cancelled

The most recent victim of a poor economy, Langerado Music Fest has cancelled the event. It was scheduled to take place March 6-8 at Florida’s Bicentennial Park. Ryan Adams headlining along with Broken Social Scene, Thievery Corporation, The Faint, Cold War Kids, Black Kids, Death Cab for Cutie, and even Snoop Dogg. A strong lineup, but alas, it is no more. Purchased tickets will be refunded within the next week.

Bonnaroo Announces 2009 Lineup

Bonnaroo, one of the USA’s largest music and arts festival announced their lineup for the 2009 festival in Manchester, Tennessee. The lineup is awesome and featuring something for everyone. Kurt Cobain’s ashes stolen

The ash remains of legendary Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain have gone missing from his widow’s, Courtney Love, Los Angeles Residence. Love, known more for her addiction and rehab than for her own musical career, reported that Cobain’s ashes were kept in a pink teddy-bear-shaped bag along with a lock of his hair. Thousands of dollars worth of jewelry and clothing were also missing. “I can’t believe anyone would take Kurt’s ashes from me,” Love was quoted by News Of the World. “I find it disgusting and right now I’m suicidal.” Kurt Cobain committed suicide with a shotgun while high on heroin in 1994. His ashes were scattered inside a Buddhist temple in New York, and some went into the Wishkah River near his home in Washington. The rest were left with Love.

I’m not sure what is more disturbing here, the fact that someone stole Cobain’s ashes or the fact that they were kept in a pink teddy bear. OK, so I guess it’s not all that surprising that Courtney Love would keep them in such a strange container, but somehow it feels a little unfitting for the remains of someone who, many would argue, was one of the greatest rockers of all time. Regardless, it’s sick and twisted that someone would do such a thing to Cobain’s widow and daughter.

RIP Bo Diddley: Rock N Roll’s Founding Father Dead At 79

Rock n Roll’s founding father Bo Diddley passed away in the early hours of this morning (June 2nd, 2008) at his home in Archer, Florida. He was 79. Born Ellas Bates in McComb, Mississippi in 1928 Diddley would shape rock and roll music forever.

Bo Diddley’s mainstream music career began in the 1950s with his break through record, “Bo Diddley,” which introduced the world to his “shave and a haircut, two bits” rhythm. Despite his string of hits, Diddley claimed to never have cashed in on his popularity and trademark sound. he continued to tour up until his stroke in May of 2007, which left his speech impaired. he suffered a heart attack three months later.

Diddley is survived by his brother The Reverend Kenneth Haynes of Biloxi, MS, his children, Evelyn Kelly, Ellas A. McDaniel, Tammi D. McDaniel and Terri Lynn Foster, as well as 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

A public funeral service will be held Saturday, June 7th at the Showers of Blessing Harvest Center in Gainesville, FL at 2:00PM. A memorial service featuring members of his touring band and guest musicians will follow at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Multi-Purpose Center, also in Gainesville, FL at 6PM.
